Halloween is upon us and we are gearing up for trick-or-treaters!
This is a fun fact, but I love books! (I guess it would be weird if I didn’t as an English Major…)
Undoubtedly this began with my parents reading to me, but my Aunt Cathy was a Kindergarten teacher! She always found my brother and some of the best reads! My most memorable Halloween was the year we received candy and she gave me Fudgeamania by Judy Blume. This was also the year my mum dressed me up as Glinda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz, but my costume was blue lol (hers was pink). Apparently my mum didn’t get that far in the movie (cue the terrifying flying monkeys)… and the internet wasn’t a thing!
In Aunt Cathy Fashion, a few years ago, instead of treats, I gifted some awesome little humans Boo-tiful Books. I was able to also channel my inner LeVar Burton. Next year I will share this year’s picks!
If you’re looking for something for your kids or grandkids or maybe your own special Trick-or-Treaters, look no further! Here we go!
Stumpkin
Written + illustrated by Lucy Ruth Cummins
Stumpkin is the story about a poor little stemless pumpkin, left behind – only wanting to become a jack-o-lantern. The illustrations are fantastic and have a super vintage/authentic NYC vibe, making it a timeless read and a book to cherish.
How to Make Friends with a Ghost
Written + illustrated by Rebecca green
This beautifully illustrated and uplifting book shows a comedic side of making friends with a ghost. It’s a great book to end fears of ghosts or the unknown with a glimmer of a spiritual side.
Creepy Pair of Underwear
Written by Aaron Reynolds + illustrated by Peter Brown
I never knew I could laugh at almost every page of a kid’s book. This hilarious story is all about Jasper the bunny, who is in need of new underwear. He insists that his mum purchase the “so creepy, so comfy” gloriously creepy underwear from the store and subsequently he realizes how afraid he is of them. This book will keep you laughing.
The little Ghost Who Lost Her Boo
Written by Elaine Bickell + Illustrated by Raymond McGrath
A sweet and beautifully illustrated little story of a ghost who has lost her “boo” and goes in search through woods looking for it, making friends along the way. I recommend this one for the very littles in your life.
Sir Simon Super Scarer
Written + illustrated by Cale Atkinson
Thinking he will be haunting old people, Simon the ghost who loves to cross-stitch and learn French discovers he will be haunting a grandma and her grandson and it’s not what he’s expecting. The dedication at the beginning of this book is deadly. The Author illustrates his parents and his dad is wearing a Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon tee, which is awesome.
I hope these Boo-tiful Books for Littles inspire you this Halloween!

Lovely! Thanks, Alex! These are awesome!
I love it ! Thank you sooo much for these great books as Aj is in love with Halloween and these will be an amazing addiction to the books for bedtime and more
Thank you for the excellent ideas Alex, I will be ordering some of those for the grandson. Always love to read to him!
Everyone knows blue is the new pink! You and your brother enjoyed the BUNNICULA series by James Howe (another Aunt Cathy recommendation)! Difficult to find but a certain company 😉 😉 (that started by delivering books) may have the complete set available. I shall check this same site for the books you’ve identified!😬
No bunnicula? Wow don’t tell mom…
Books are a gift I always try and give. People bought Ian books and like your parents I read to him every night. Unfortunately, with so may tech items now he would rather listen than read!
