Welcome to the “Have Yourself a Canadian Little Christmas” Blog hop.
My style varies; sometimes it’s a mix of Scandinavian simplicity, or Liberace-eque bling. This year I incorporated my favourite vintage finds and pieces with a few family heirlooms. Simple and timeless, I decorated the landing at the top of the stairs.
The Sled in the corner is actually my mum’s from when she was a kid. Most likely purchased at Eaton’s or Marshall Wells. Next, Mike bought me the metal “It’s a Wonderful Life” sign, which fits perfectly between the slats on the sled – kismet I tell ya!
My dad is awesome, he cut down a tree from camp for me, it’s actually the top of a balsam tree and it smells amazing. Can you get anymore Canadian?
Cue the Iconic Department Stores…
Because pretty much everyone on the Golden side of my family worked at Eaton’s, anything Eaton’s related can be found between us. I actually purchased a few of these vintage Eaton’s boxes from Ebay – never folded and never used, sad really. We still exchange presents in old Eaton’s boxes, it’s a nice surprise underneath the wrapping paper.
The Santa sacks were also one of Eaton’s Christmas staples. Christmas morning we’d go to our Nana’s house to open presents with our cousins, she’d have a Santa Sack for each of us.
The HBC Crate was one of my favourite finds from Kijijji. I got it for $5.00.
I kid you not.
Both the snowshoe and the ruler I borrowed from my Dad (I come by the pack-rat gene honestly). I’m enjoying the layered look of the snowshoe, wreath and star – something I’ve never done before and a little outside the box.
I hope you’ve been inspired to dig up some items you already have, and re-use them for a Christmas display. Sometimes the best decor items are the ones that have the most sentimental meaning, that are hiding in your attic or storage space.
