Straying from the norm of wedding posts, DIY and graphic design; this post is all about my Grandpa, Stanley Golden.
The Hunt for Golden Treasure Begins!
Interestingly enough, my Grandpa’s past is a bit of a mystery, and I have decided to do some digging.
Here’s what I know so far… Stay with me.
John Stanley Golden was born 12 February, 1911 in St. Boniface Manitoba
His parents were Catherine (MacKinnon) and John Terence Golden
His godmother, was “Mrs. Fraser” aka Princess von Arenberg of Hunacsyz of Huntz Castle, Transylvania, Hungary (more to come on this info)
He was a young model in 1916 for the T. Eaton Company
He had one younger brother, Thomas, and a sister, Shirley
The Golden Family moved, and ended up in both Redondo Beach California, and Minneapolis Minnesota, USA
His father was apparently very wealthy… a bar owner, or some sort of liquor tycoon
Grandpa grew up in an exclusive neighbourhood during his time in Minneapolis, somewhere near Hennepin Ave and Nicolette Ave.
He and his brother Thomas, attended a Catholic college preparatory high school, DeLaSalle
He played Tennis, eventually teaching at the Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta
Somewhere in between, his father may have lost their fortune during the stock market crash of 1929
Mysteriously, both Grandpa and his brother are missing from any DeLaSalle Yearbooks or records after 1929
Grandpa either worked at the Minneapolis Athletic Club… or some sort of respected Men’s or Millionaires club in Minneapolis
His parents separated, and traces and records of Terence have been lost…
The Mission
To find information on John Terence Golden
To find out what happened to Terence
To find out why they left Redondo Beach
To find out why or what happened in between 1929 – 1932 (where Grandpa worked, why he is absent from DeLaSalle archives)
I will be utilizing my family’s records and recollections, as well as the wonderful people at the Hennepin County Library (thank you for some awesome finds so far) wonderful Ancestry.com and other web archives.
Wish me luck! More to follow…

Well, well, well….. very interesting story Alex! So you are on a mission now, yes? It is always very exciting and rewarding to find out facts and stories about your ancestors.
And now it is very clear to me why we’ve clicked so well as friends… You may have some aristocratic blood in you and it is a well known fact that we, royal and aristocratic families descendents have always, naturally, gravitated towards each other.
